Scafell Pike

After a 6am start on Saturday morning, a sleepy few of the intrepid hikers set off on the mammoth journey to the Lake District.
With a few breakfast stops for Rob 'the buffet boy' , We arrived at the national trust car park at the foot of Scafell Pike at about 1pm. We geared up & started the steep accent to the peak ! The weather was fantastic and after a long 2 1/2 hour climb we all reached the top, to see the amazing veiws of wast water and the Lake District.
The decent was a lot quicker, think we all knew the pub was the next start and we were all back in the mini bus with in 4 hours of our start !

A great effort by all the team as the training reaches it final stages !

Snowdon this weekend

Sorry, Its been a few week since I last updated the BLOGG on our training. BUT our real BIG test is this weekend, when we take on the might of Snowdon !

What we have done since the last blogg is a challenging 12 miles round the Chilterns and another 11 mile up & down and then up & down Walbury hill, so the training has been going really well.

From reports on the net, the snowdon summit weather seems to be more favourable too, which is a huge advantage.

Snow Stopping us now !

The snow on Sunday morning stop us from getting to the planned car park at the top of Walbury Hill. We just couldn't get the cars up the ice/snow steep lanes. So, after much excitement and wheel spinning, we end up parking in the local tavern. Much the the delight of some back seat passengers and also giving us the motivation for a drink after our training walk.

The conditions didn't get much better on the way up either, as we trudged up hill, in foot deep snow. On reaching the summit of Walbury Hill, the highest point in the South East England region of the UK at 297 m (974 ft) above sea level. We decided to alter the route and return back to the cars, rather than continuing.

Our decent would have been a lot quicker if we'd carried a sledge up with us.

Still a lot of training to be done before our first main challenge, Snowdon at the end of March !

Breaking in the Boots

Well, another weekend and another training walk completed. We join up with Berkshire Walkers and did an 11 mile hike from Blackwater to Wokingham.

We were still a little short on numbers with only 5 team members of the 11, turning out on a frosty saturday morning !

It was a good walk and ideal for breaking in the new boots, which after the frost went and the mud came, dont look so new now !

So, i think it was 'blister Sunday' for most of us !

Monday, 12 January 2009

Well, we did our first real training session on Saturday, a 7 mile route round Bracknell Forest, with a nice little coffee break at the Discovery Centre, Well that was the plan anyway.

So, with NEW boots and rucksack's off the four of us set, (4 out of 11 not the best start!) meeting up with Suzi 'sorry I'm late' Drake at the coffee break point.

Its at this point, we entered new territory and diverted off the planned route slightly to get in a nice big incline !

However, we struggled to great back on to the original route and in true British tradition, we carried on regardless. Until we found a settlement, which we found to be Bagshot ...... oops !

So, our 7 mile round route, turn into more of a 10 mile straight line ! The taxi drive thought it was funny anyway !
